How To Keep Your Vehicles Safer This Summer

We rely on our cars, trucks, and SUVs to get us where we need to go, but we don't always protect our vehicles as much as we should. As a result, we might come outside to find our cars and trucks damaged or vandalized, or find valuables missing. In today's Aegis blog post, we look at three ways to help keep your personal vehicles and commercial vehicles safer this summer to prevent damages or losses.

Use Garages or Covered Parking

Most residential homes come with a garage, whether it's attached or detached, and people in apartments or townhomes will usually have some sort of covered parking available. If your home or apartment has a garage or covered parking available, you should use it on a regular basis. It will not only keep your vehicle better protected against criminals or vandals, but it can also keep your vehicle cooler in the summer and help lower the chance of vehicle damage from hailstorms.  This is also true for businesses with commercial trucks or cars as they will be safer parked under covered parking areas or in parking garages.

Always Lock Doors and Close Windows

Older Americans fondly remember a time when you could leave doors and windows unlocked and didn't have to worry about someone entering your home or vehicle. Sadly, times have changed, so it's important we are vigilant about protecting our property, and that starts with our cars and trucks. Always make sure to lock your vehicle when you're parked, and try to avoid leaving windows open, as it might be a temptation for thieves. In addition, an open window or sunroof could let in rain, insects, or other unwelcome vermin, causing damage to your interior.

Never Leave Valuables Inside

Finally, keep your car, truck, SUV or van safer this summer by not leaving valuables inside. Too often people choose convenience over safety and they leave all kinds of valuables inside their vehicle, often in plain sight. It's not uncommon to hear of people getting wallets, purses, laptops, backpacks, shopping bags, cell phones, tools, or other personal and commercial property stolen because they left it inside their vehicle. Thieves can take these things in an instant, even if the doors are locked.
